Vaquero Club Expansion

Opened over 15 years ago, the Vaquero Club is home to one of the world's most prestigious golf courses, designed by Fazio, with an elite clientele who expect only the best. For members, the Vaquero Clubhouse is a second home. This luxurious, yet comfortable setting is where members live, work and play.

The Challenge

Responding to the needs of a growing club with a changing demographic, the membership was challenged with reinventing the Vaquero experience while protecting their elite country club reputation in the development.

Thought Process

Working with committees of members, we evaluated options for construction sequencing, member amenities, and dining options. We harnessed the talents of the design team, construction contractor, and members to develop options for phasing and led value engineering charrettes to finalize the project scope and work within a defined budget for the project.

The Solution

We developed a phased plan to renovate and expand the Ranch House portion of the project prior to a full shutdown of the Clubhouse for construction of the fitness and dining/bar expansions. By avoiding a multiple phase project, we were able to keep the project in budget while balancing the needs of the club for ongoing operations.

The Takeaway

Of the three main variables in construction - cost, schedule, and quality - we recognized that we can maintain a very high quality project while balancing cost and schedule to achieve the client’s goals.
